AceShowbiz - Taking the same pick as two other film critics organizations, NYFCC and WAFCA, the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association (DFWFCA) delightfully labeled the 9/11 gripping drama "United 93" the Best Film of 2006 as the 35 online, broadcast, and print members unveiled the winners of its DFWFCA Awards on Monday, December 18, 2006.
For other film categories, the association willingly named "Letters from Iwo Jima" as the Best Foreign Language Film and "An Inconvenient Truth" as the Best Documentary with "Happy Feet" being deemed the Best Animated Film and "Half Nelson" getting mentioned as the Russell Smith Award recipient in its recognition for best low-budget or cutting-edge independent film.
Falling in step with pretty much everyone else in the leading acting categories, the group crowned Forest Whitaker of "The Last King of Scotland" and Helen Mirren of "The Queen" the Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, while selecting Jackie Earle Haley and Cate Blanchett as the winners in supporting slots, the former one for his performance in "Little Children" and the latter for hers in "Notes on a Scandal."
Other champs included "The Departed" helmer Martin Scorsese who took home Best Director title and Dean Semler who scored in Best Cinematography category for his amazing work in "Apocalypto."
