Jada Pinkett Smith has donated $1 million to her former high school, Maryland's Baltimore School of the Arts.

AceShowbiz - Actress-singer Jada Pinkett Smith has made a $1 million donation to alma mater, Maryland's Baltimore School of the Arts, from which she graduated and started on a successful acting career.

The donation is said to come from the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation, which is based in Baltimore and had previously given $112,500 to the school.

Smith wants the new school theater to be named after fellow classmate, rapper Tupac Shakur, who was shot and killed in 1996. "She knew how brilliant he was and just thought it was only fitting to dedicate it to him," Karen Banfield Evans, Pinkett Smith's aunt and executive director of the Smith Family Foundation told the Associated Press.

"It means a lot when you're a teacher and your most famous alumnus comes back to give a donation," Baltimore School of the Arts official Donald Hicken said of the donation. "It really says a lot to the community that the school matters in people's lives."
