"Murphy Brown" creator Diane English is in charge to direct a film remake of George Cukor's 1939 picture "The Women."

AceShowbiz - Landing her next directorial stint on the big screen after "First Man", writer-producer Diane English has reached a deal to helm hip New York comedy "The Women", a remake of George Cukor's 1939 effort of the same title based on the Clare Boothe Luce novel.

Scheduled to start filming mid-March in New York, the project revolves around a tight-knit group of female friends dealing with friendship, divorce and betrayal. It is reported that names like Meg Ryan, Lisa Kudrow, Anne Hathaway, and Candice Bergen have already been attached to star with Christopher Eberts, Mick Jagger, also Victoria Pearman producing.

English, widely known as the creator of CBS' popular yet controversial sitcom "Murphy Brown", first commenced her path in show business through her writing work for "The Lathe of Heaven" (1980) before began producing in mid '80s. Some of her writing credits include those for TV series of "My Sister Sam", "Love & War", "Double Rush", and "Ink."
