Matt Damon is fighting poverty and AIDS in Africa.

AceShowbiz - Spending more than a week visiting Africa in May earlier this year has given Matt Damon enough spirit to sink deeper into social matter, especially that deals with poverty and AIDS in the country. And thus committed to fight both issues, the actor hosted a fundraiser in Toronto last week to raise money to fight global poverty.

Attended by such famous names as Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz, Wyclef Jean and John Legend, the event raised almost $1.8 million which will benefit Canada's One X One and the U.S.-based Millennium Promise, headed by United Nations adviser Dr. Jeffrey Sachs.

On top of all, Damon also has run a celebrity auction for prizes that included a chance to escort him and Pitt to the premiere of "Ocean's Thirteen". That's not all, the Hollywood hunk reveals that he also is working on a documentary and is hoping to watch Wyclef sing with the African's Children Choir.
