Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson will make another fantasy picture based on Naomi Novik's historical fantasy series "Temeraire."

AceShowbiz - Returning to fantasy genre, "Lord of the Rings" trilogy helmer Peter Jackson is set to make "Temeraire", a film adaptation of Naomi Novik's historical fantasy series of the same title following his successful attempt to pick up the rights to the saga, The Hollywood Reporter has reported.

Described as "a reimagining of the epic events of the Napoleonic Wars with an air force- an air force of dragons, manned by crews of aviators", "Temeraire" takes focus on a British naval officer named Capt. Will Laurence who gives up his naval career to become captain of a dragon he names Temeraire. So far, Novik has released three novels of the series, namely "His Majesty's Dragon" or known as "Temeraire" in U.K, "Throne of Jade", and "Black Powder War."

'Temeraire' is a terrific meld of two genres that I particularly love -- fantasy and historical epic," Jackson commented. "As I was reading these books, I could see them coming to life in my mind's eye. These are beautifully written novels, not only fresh, original and fast-paced, but full of wonderful characters with real heart."

Though admitted that he "can't wait to see Napoleonic battles fought with a squadron of dragons", Jackson has not yet decided whether he will make the adaptation of only one or all of the series. However, the New Zealander did reveal that he is eyeing a possibility to bring the books into the realm of interactive entertainment.
