Ben Affleck has been named best actor at the Venice Film Festival for his role in "Hollywoodland."

AceShowbiz - That Ben Affleck was one of the big winners at the 63rd annual Venice Film Festival, it's a big surprise. The Hollywood actor surprised many when his name was mentioned to win the Best Actor award at the ceremony, thanks to his portrayal as George Reeves in "Hollywoodland".

It is a drama mystery thriller flick directed by Allen Coulter. As of the story, "Hollywoodland" dramatizes an investigation into the death of George Reeves, star of the 1950s TV show "Adventures of Superman." Did not attend the ceremony, Affleck however sent a message of thanks from Los Angeles via his BlackBerry, saying he was "surprised, flattered and honored".

In companion with him, British actress Helen Mirren has been named Best Actress, taking into account her great portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II, in "The Queen." The Chinese film "Still Life", surprisingly, also was a big winner at the festival, as the jury chose the flick to win the Golden Lion award.

This year Venice Film Festival ran from Aug. 30 to Sept. 9 with winners announced on Sept. 9. For more on the winners, click on https://www.altfg.com/awards/2006/venice.htm.
