Intended to be a romantic comedy, the movie is based on Susan Shapiro's romance memoir of the same title which follows the writer as she faced her midlife crisis that later led her to seek out five boyfriends who dumped her to find out why she didn't measure up. Blumhouse's Jason Blum and Rachael Horovitz of Specialty Film are both seating as the producers.

An alumna of New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, McLaughlin has been covered in virtually every major newspaper and magazine all around the country following her success with "The Nanny Diaries." Her other work, "Citizen Girl", was published in 2004 and takes a look at one woman's career odyssey in the 21st century economy.
