"Halo" will be directed by first-time big screen director Neil Blomkamp.

AceShowbiz - The clouds surrounding "Halo" are finally cleared. The film's producer finally has found the right man to bring the project up to the surface in Neil Blomkamp. Previously handled visual effects on some TV programs like "Smallville" and "Dark Angel", Blomkamp therefore is making his directorial debut on the picture, which is based on the popular video game of the same title.
Hailed from South Africa, Blomkamp has also been known for his works in TV commercials as well as short films. One of the featured artists at the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes in 2004, he received three Clio Awards and a Visual Effects Society Award last year through Citroen-Alive with Technology TV ads.
Eyeing a summer 2008 worldwide release, "Halo" is a production of WingNut Films owned by Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson and his longtime partner, Fran Walsh. Intended to be shot in Wellington, New Zealand, the movie will rely on Jackson's Weta Digital Ltd. and Weta Workshop, Ltd. for its visual effects, miniatures, plus creature design and creation.
The film's distribution will be handled by Universal for domestic market and 20th Century Fox for international scope. Mary Parent, Scott Stuber, and Peter Schlessel are set to produce.
