Steve Carell, Allison Janney, Kiefer Sutherland, and other stars landed a nomination at the 2006 Emmy Awards.

AceShowbiz - As the celebration of this year's Emmy Awards draws near, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has officially announced on Thursday, July 6 the nominees for the prime time entertainment. Choosing those for the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series category, the organization has picked up names like Steve Carell, Tony Shalhoub, and Charlie Sheen in the list besides placing Kiefer Sutherland, Peter Krause, also Denis Leary together to compete for the title of Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series.

In the female's side, Stockard Channing, Debra Messing, and Lisa Kudrow will be up for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series category while Allison Janney, Kyra Sedgwick, plus Geena Davis have been lined up for that in drama series. As for another in miniseries/ TV-movie category, there has popped up notable names of Gillian Anderson, Kathy Bates, Judy Davis, Helen Mirren, and Annette Bening altogether.

For the features, TNT's miniseries "Into the West" has surprisingly come out as the top nominated program with 16 nominations, including Outstanding Miniseries category in which it joins "Bleak House", "Elizabeth I", and "Sleeper Cell", followed by "24" with 12 nods. The suspense drama series itself will face up against "House", "The Sopranos", and "The West Wing" in the category of Outstanding Drama Series. Taking place at famed Shrine Auditorium, the 58th annual Emmy Awards are slated to be aired live on August 27 through NBC with Conan O'Brien as the host. Traditionally held in September, the event has been moved up this year to accommodate the network's coverage of Sunday Night NFL Football beginning in the month.
