Reese Witherspoon sued Star magazine, charging that the tabloid fabricated a story that she was pregnant with her third child.

AceShowbiz - Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon breaks her silence. She has on Wednesday June 21st, 2006 sued Star magazine over a cover story that claimed she is pregnant with her third child. The article suggested that Witherspoon was unwilling to tell producers of her upcoming films that she was pregnant and was hiding her changing body under 1920s-style swimsuits, baggy clothing and "Empire-waist dresses."

In fact, according to the suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Witherspoon is not pregnant, "does not have a 'baby bump' and has not otherwise gained weight such that she has had to resort to wearing 'Empire-waist dresses,' 'baggy clothing,' or an 'old-fashioned 1920's bathing suit.'" And based on such fact, the actress alleges Star fabricated the story to boost its "sagging sales."

Witherspoon sued the magazine's parent company, American Media Inc. for invasion of privacy over the cover story, which appears in issues dated June 26 and is already in some stores. The actress sought unspecified general and punitive damages in the lawsuit, which asserts the related story hurt her reputation it implied that she was dishonest with the producers.
