Mischa Barton's character in "The O.C." had been killed because of a mere creative decision only as explained by creator Josh Schwartz

AceShowbiz - Following the debate whether Mischa Barton was really forced to leave Fox popular series of "The O.C" or not, the show creator, Josh Schwartz, finally gave his remark concerning the matter. Concluded to kill Barton's character, Marissa Cooper, in the series' season finale aired May 18, the man firmly claimed that the elimination was purely a creative decision and had nothing to do with the actress.

"She was a complete professional," he commented earnestly. Nevertheless, a source close to the program has informed that the character was actually killed to raise the show's profile as it lately had tough struggle in the ratings. "Everybody's talking about The OC again, and that's exactly what they want," so the person said.

In related reports, Barton herself seemed to be quite satisfied about the removal of her character from the series she had been involved in since its debut in 2003. "Well, I was really excited that I get to die, to be honest," she told Newsweek Magazine. "I've done pretty much everything else with the character. It was better than one of those lame farewells."
