Doherty was on Friday April 28th, 2006 being investigated by police following British tabloid The Sun printed pictures which showed him injecting drugs into a female fan's arm as she laid unconscious.
The Sun, which ran the photos under the headline "You Sick Idiot," described the woman in the photo as a girl "from a middle-class background" who "idolizes" Doherty and frequently visits him at his flat. The paper claimed the photos were taken within the last five weeks at Doherty's home.
"Officers from the Specialist Crime Directorate are investigating the drug allegations made in today's Sun newspaper," London's Metropolitan Police said. Elsewhere, a representative for Doherty declined to comment.
