"King Kong" grasped an estimated $50.1 million Friday through Sunday to top the weekend box office

AceShowbiz - This weekend box office is dominated by the giant animal, "King Kong." The classic beauty and beast tale taking in $50.15 million in its first weekend, such amount less than expected yet able to place the action adventure on top of the Top 10 movies for the period of Dec 16th to 18th.
At 2nd position is "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" with $31.1 million, ahead of "The Family Stone" at 3rd with $12.7 million. Meanwhile, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" scores $5.9 million in its fifth weekend, secures the 4th place, followed by "Syriana" at No. 5 with $5.4 million.
No. 6 is "Walk the Line," which ticket sales reaches $3.6 million, while the No. 7 is "Yours, Mine and Ours" scores $3.4 million. With $2.3 million, "Brokeback Mountain" wins the 8th rank, followed behind at No. 9 by "Just Friends" with $1.9 million and "Aeon Flux" at No. 10 with $1.6 million.
