The Broadway revival of "Sweet Charity," starring Christina Applegate, will close Dec. 31 after an eight-month run

AceShowbiz - Producers said on Wednesday Dec 14 that the Broadway revival of the musical "Sweet Charity" starring Christina Applegate is about to end on December 31 after eight months. This obviously ending the speculation that Britney Spears might join the cast, replacing Applegate in January in the role of a plucky dancer with a heart of gold named Charity Hope Valentine.
Explaining the show's end, a spokesman for the show said Applegate's contract had always been due to expire at the end of December, whereas he could not confirm that Spears had been a candidate to replace her.
