Jane Fonda got tobacco split from a Vietnam veteran during a book signing for her new autobiography "My Life So Far"

AceShowbiz - The two-time Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda got a face full of tobacco split Tuesday April 19, 2005, in Kansas City, during a book signing for her new autobiography "My Life So Far." It was a 54 years old Vietnam veteran named Michael A. Smith who did it to her after waiting in line to have her sign her new memoir.

Smith who was not buying her memoir, told The Kansas City Star Wednesday that Fonda was a "traitor" and that her protests against the Vietnam War were unforgivable. Also he added the tobacco split as a debt of honor for Fonda, who according to him, had split in American faces for 37 years and so worth it. Thus, Smith was arrested Tuesday night on a municipal charge of disorderly conduct. He was then released on bond and is due to appear in court on May 27.

Fonda, in contrast, issued a statement through Jynne Martin of Random House, "In spite of the incident, my experience in Kansas City was wonderful and I thank all the warm and supportive people, including so many veterans, who came to welcome me last night."
